Ghostin’ In

According to some sources, Wild Turkey’s are categorized as an upland bird. This seems to be a debatable point, which at the end of the day really doesn’t make much difference. At the same time this little nugget of information, cited from a questionable source, makes me enjoy yesterday’s trek even more. Maybe it’s the cachet? Again debatable.

The day began with an early “alpine” start and a short four mile drive from the front door. We crossed the river in darkness and climbed steep ridges to discover five plus gobblers with our first crow call at sunrise. Our plan to “ghost in” to the forest by darkness, call in some birds at first light and be out quickly all came together in a way that few things ever seem to.

  1. That’s awesome. I had a bit of trouble last weekend trying to get turkey’s to come to me. Beautiful photos.
